York is located in east central Nebraska at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and U.S Route 81. With its strategic location near both of these major routes that stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from Canada to Mexico, York proclaims to be at "the heart of the nation." It serves as the county seat for York County and has a population of approximately 8,000 residents. The city of York is a vibrant community that offers a high quality of life, amenities usually found in much larger cities and the friendliness of a small town. It is home to York College and a full range of businesses and services for residents and visitors alike. The town holds an annual Farmer's Market each Thursday evening on the Courthouse Square throughout the summer until mid-October. Vendors sell home grown and home made products, as well as hot food and drinks. York is also host to several special events throughout the year, including a 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks and YORKFEST in September. YORKFEST is a weekend long event that is fun for the whole family. It includes a Grand Parade, games, rides, good food and the coronation of the YORKFEST King and Queen.
